The IDB's 2020 flagship book, “From Structures to Services” motivates us to think about basic infrastructure services today and how technological disruption will change the way these services will be provided in the future. Latin America and the Caribbean has pending challenges in relation to infrastructure services . In electricity, despite the efforts made by our region to increase access, there are still 18 million people who cannot access electrical service, most of whom belong to low-income groups. In addition, the region experiences an average of 16 unscheduled interruptions per year, which represents more than one blackout per month. The region needs to invest more and better.

In a context in which technologies are changing and improving the way in which infrastructure services are provided, these are one of the most powerful tools to provide a future with quality and affordable services. As part of the activities of the IDB's 2020 flagship book, case studies were carried out to present successful C Level Executive List technology experiences improving the way infrastructure services are provided. The cases present Korea's experience in managing smart infrastructure services and improving service efficiency. Korea is a leader in infrastructure and technology. Advances in the sector extend beyond significant investment in infrastructure.



In this way, it seeks to identify Korea's technical knowledge and qualified experience in the preparation, management and measurement of smart infrastructure services, in order to complement and strengthen national and regional technical capacities in this area in Latin American countries. and the Caribbean. Together with the Korea Development Institute (KDI), in the following video we tell you about Korea's experience in   smart grids through an analysis of the main success factors, including the policy framework considered and the use of technology to provide efficient infrastructure services. In this context, Korea's experience in the use of technology for the provision of services allows valuable lessons to be learned for Latin America and the Caribbean.
