There the technique is not an element
|
The teaching of the technique even if it is easy should not be neglected. After all it is the only connecting element between the different categories of photography. Does this mean that all studentphotographers regardless of whether they are destined for the professional field or for artistic creation need the same nature and the same degree of technique Not exactly. And this is because the professional relies mainly on his technical perfection with which he must be able to satisfy every requirement of his client and compete with his peers in the conditions of the tough competitive market.
Again however the more specific direction he will take advertising fashion journalism etc. will also determine the degree of his technical expertise. But the artist whose goal is personal creation It should even be emphasized that when the artist tries to solve technical problems he is often led to new expressive searches. Therefore if he knows the photo background removing use and operation of the devices and materials of photography which is not so difficult he can easily wander on his own for their most special exploitation. And this wandering will be all the more personal the less guided it is. For this reason I do not believe in didactic technical exercises when they are addressed in the same way to all students.
On the contrary in an artistic photography course the technical exercises if the teacher deems them appropriate must be combined with the work with the personality and with the aspirations of the particular person. Of course I cant object to group technical exercises when they concern aspiring professionals. of a personal form but above all the necessary condition for practicing a profession and the goal of the teacher is not the cultivation and development of the personal and as much as possible inner creative elements of the student but the confident implementation of a correct technique such as is done in the studies of a civil engineer.
